Painting by the Masters Team Event with VMware Creates Stunning Mural
The Painting by the Masters Team Event is a fabulous way to entertain and engage all types of people. For example, engineers, tech people, and IT people don’t come to mind first when you think “Art Program.” However, as it turns out, painting can be mastered and enjoyed by even the most senior of IT folks.
The CPE team from VMware is responsible for protecting all of the information throughout the sprawling VMware campus in the Palo Alto hills, including the source code that powers the entire company! These are some very high level “left brain dominate” type individuals.
As you can see from the picture above, their combined genius was adaptable and applicable to making a very detailed, and a very gigantic mural come to life. In this case, 10 different teams of 4 to 5 people each. painted a unique canvass about 4 square feet in dimension. Teams used a paint by number system, and they have to face ambiguity.
There are parts of the canvas where the numbers do not clearly indicate which color the space should be painted. The team has to agree how to proceed, what the standard for precision should be, and which tools can help them achieve a result they are proud to call their own. I witnessed many teams work through these areas with different styles and with different results, In all cases, the individuals within the teams enjoyed the chance to paint,
If one thing stands out about the Painting by the Masters team event – besides the consistently amazing end results of the murals such as the one above, it is how much fun everyone has at the opportunity to paint and be in an artistic space with fellow employees.
Painting is inherently fun and engaging. In this event people can relax, just paint, and have the results be way better than they expected.
In the end, the teams figured out how the 10 individual canvasses came together to make one stunning mural. The mural will hang in their office as a reminder to a great day of camaraderie, trust building, and communication.
