Pentel Coloring Team Event
A Pentel Coloring Team Event to celebrate their 60th anniversary was a huge success, with 130 people creating a 16 foot x 9 foot massive mural!
Pentel offers artists a wide spectrum of tools blending precision, color intensity, and versatility. Their portfolio includes gel pens that deliver ultra-fine, smooth lines; brush and pocket brush pens ideal for expressive strokes and inking; oil pastels and watercolors for rich, “blendable” color; and hybrid/mixed media tools. We used 24 different Pentel pens, mostly brush pens, but also a wide variety. My favorite was the “Markathon” pen!
32 teams of 3 to 4 people, each colored a 25″ x 27″ canvass. At the end, the group put all of the canvasses together to make one Giant Mural!
The project started with a custom image drawn by artist Jairu that reflected themes in society and supported Pentels’ theme of “Reimagine Your World!” He created a vibrant collection of images that included themes such as “Free Speech, End Youth Homelessness, Community, Mental Health, Clean Water, Refill the Forest” and more, that all work together in harmony surrounding the globe.
We translated his image into a “Paint by Number” format to make it easy for the teams to color it in correctly, and then printed this image onto 32 unique painter’s canvases. The teams took about 1-hour to color within all of the lines, and apply enough layers to give it that smooth, wonderful finish that really pops.
We finished the event by having all of the teams bring their canvasses to the front of the room, and assemble them in the correct format. This was the first time many of the participants had seen the whole image together! You can tell from the picture above, they were excited to see it all come together!
A huge thank you to Pentel for engaging our Paint a Giant Mural concept with their amazing pens, and for having us back for your 60th anniversary!
