Robot Team Build New World Record with Dropbox
The TeamWorx Robot Team Build with Dropbox produced a stunning world record time, and a 2nd place team finishing just 30 seconds later. The ladder to make the point that this was not an outlier – we are awesome – the former beating the old record by 7 minutes!
The new world record holders (pictured above) built the Speed and Skill robot in 23 minutes and 24 seconds! The previous record set just blocks away and a month earlier by Total Energy, was 30 minutes and 20 seconds. We did not think the Total record would be broken based on our observations of hundreds of teams building robots. To see it beat by 7 minutes took my breath away, and then to have a 2nd team finish just 30 seconds behind – wow. We had 8 teams, and the other 6 did not break the record and finished in more human times of between 35 and 55 minutes. This highlights the statistical normalcy of the competition and what an extraordinary achievement from these two teams.
In addition to beating a world record, and perhaps more importantly, Dropbox engineers had a great time! Everyone was engaged in the robot building part of the, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and communication. Team members were proactive – looking ahead for ways to help their team – and focused intensely on the robot building process. Every team wanted to win! The competitions gave an excellent outlet for these feelings as many teams tasted victory in at least one event, and team “1” tasting a little more than the others to become the overall champion of the day.
It was a very fun day with Dropbox, and a group of their highly talented engineers. They are used to building things for others, today they built a robot for themselves. We are looking forward to other groups from Dropbox competing for the World Record, and more importantly the company record!
