School Makeover Chicago with BMO Bank

BMO Bank chose the TeamWorx School Makeover Chicago as a part of their quad-annual international leadership conference. We followed a speech by Timothy Geithner, Former United States Secretary of the Treasury, and a panel of expert bankers and journalists. The School Makeover Chicago was a 180 degree turn from in depth and hard hitting international finance. We shocked and surprise the audience when we informed them of two incredible facts:

1. In most cases what Mr. Geithner mentioned in his speech, that (paraphrased) “the sad truth in America is that if you live in a wealthy neighborhood you are likely to get a great education and if you live in a poor neighborhood you are not,” holds true; but not today! We are taking you to a school that has almost 100% minority students, 98% free lunch, and greater than 90% of its students testing at or above grade level!
2. In 2 hours or less, we are going to completely makeover the entire school!

This had their attention! They charged out of the conference room in route to the School Makeover Chicago event, riding on school buses and arriving ready to get the job done. 15 minutes West Chicago we arrived at Frazier International Magnet School. BMO spent 2 hours repainting every classroom and hallway, the gymnasium, the cafeteria, building a play set and a garden trellis, and decorating the ceiling tiles and lockers! As thye exited the building they were greeted by a hallways packed with people chanting “B” “MO” … “B” “MO” and thanking them for investing and recognizing their school. The day after the event BMO returned with a licensed contractor and fixed anything that was not up to their high standards so the school would have the BMO touch!

A truly inspiring day and one with far reaching impact on generations of children.
