Robot Battles Event with Tencent Rivals Video Game Experience
A Robot Battles Event with Tencent included an amazing melee battle session to rival any video game experience. Team Alita – named after the revered battle angel cyborg from the future – took home the build title with a scorching time of 36:50 (thirty-six minutes and fifty seconds), easily placing them in the top 10% all-time. Team Alita was seen taunting team Iron Man – settling a cross waters conflict of super hero supremacy.
The battles were awesome with screws and parts flying, over 20 flipped robots, and dozens of popped balloons! When working with a video game company, especially one who owns 40% of Epic – Fortnite’s creator – we expect some amazing displays of hand eye coordination – sometimes even the mythical blending of true mental/physical multitasking on display – and this event was no exception.
Team 60 Cent had the highest proportion of these “masters of the remotes” – capturing 3 of the 5 melee rounds and racking up a total of 40 points – in route to victory. Team Iron Man was next with 25 total points, followed by team Alita with 21, team Terminator with 13, and team Sit and Win with 5. Team 60 Cent ended up with 50% of all the points scored during battle – a clear victory!
The teams including people of the highest intellectual orders – even by bay area standards – including the Quantum Theory and Future Global Standards Creation teams, and one team from HR and Interns.
Tencent is a fascinating company that owns stakes in many of the most popular video game companies worldwide including Epic Games (makers of Fortnite), Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard (Call of Duty), Riot Games (League of Legends), Supercell (Clash of Clans), and others!
A huge thank you to Tencent for a very fun and invigorating event in Palo Alto. We look forward to challenging other teams to beat the company record build time of 36:50 set by Alita!
