Instagram Robot Team Building
An Instagram Robot Team Building event at the Meta Campus building number 23, was a huge success with 4 teams building and battling robots. Building 23 is just down the street from Meta HQ at Hacker Way, and in line with the famous and spectacular MPK-21. One could walk from building 23 all the way to HQ across a series of paths and elevated walkways, but it would take 30-40 minutes.
Building 23 was created in a 180,000-sq.-ft. renovation of an existing warehouse into Class A office space with training rooms, full-service kitchen, and event space. The entire structure and slab of the project was removed and built back to raise the building above the flood plain and to increase the structural capacity of the roof to allow for the MEP equipment and seismic loads. Only the exterior walls were saved and needed to be braced to reuse them. Design-Build MEP. LEED Gold.
This was our first event with Instagram which was exciting and real honor. This team was responsible for the chat functionality, making sure your messages get where they are supposed to go. Almost all of the time that is not an issue, but when something does happen, these folks track down the problem and make it right!
The winning build time of 37:00 minutes posted by the team pictured above, was just fast enough to make the top 100 list, coming in at number 88 all-time. Considering thousands of teams have competed over more than 7 years, getting on the list is truly impressive. The other three teams finished fairly quickly afterwards, and we were able to get several rounds of combat in before our time ran out.
We finished with an exciting “last bot standing” finale where every team was in the running until a crazy “double flip pushout” (pictured above) left just one bot standing! This was one of the craziest endings to any battle anywhere, unexpected, and ultimately thrilling!
