Davis Team Building Limagrain IT Robots
Davis Team Building in the summer is recommended to be an indoor type of thing, with temperatures outside reaching over 100 degree often. So it was with Limagrain, an international agricultural co-operative with over 10,000 employees in 56 different countries, we built and battled robots in the comfort of office air conditioning.
Limagrain maybe the largest company you have never heard of, being the 3rd largest seed company in the world, the 2nd largest French baker, and 3rd largest French pastry maker! I was working with their “Americas” team which included participants from France (HQ), USA, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico.
We divided into two teams Success Robot and MIGA (Making IT Great Again). Success Robot won the build competition with top 5% time of 32:59 (thirty two minutes and fifty-nine seconds) followed about 10 minutes later by MIGA. The battles started well for MIGA with 3 consecutive wins all by knockout! We battled in a one-on-one format where each person from the winning build team called out 1 person from the other team to battle. This makes for a very competitive and fun format.
MIGA personnel stepped up to the challenge and won the first three one-on-one battles and things were looking really good. Then the fourth battle went to Success Robot by knockout, and then two more wins by Success Robot made for a 3-3 tie and set-up the ultimate championship. The final two battlers were both named Steve – “Nice” Steve and “Judo” Steve – both nicknamed for demonstrating exemplary performance in their respective areas. Nice Steve tried to give his battle position up to the photographer so she could have a chance (which she did later), and Judo Steve kept surprising us with unanticipated solutions.
It was a great battle that lasted past the 2 minute time and into overtime where finally Judo Steve did what Judo Steve does – flipped Nice Steve and claimed an amazing come-from behind victory with four straight knockout wins!
