RTI Rocks Robots in Sunnyvale All Company Event!
A Sunnyvale Team Building at the corporate headquarters for RTI (Real Time Innovations) was part of an all-company yearly meeting. People traveled from all parts of the United States and the World to take part in a Robot Battles team building event and build bicycles to give away to Rebekah Children’s Services. TeamWorx arranged the bicycle event which included RTI building and giving away 15 bicycles! Local sports shop Sports Basement provided a great discount on our bicycles and provided a mechanic to make sure everything went great. They were truly awesome partners!
People chose which event to do with about 140 people building and battling robots and about 40 people building bicycles and giving them away. The 14 robot build teams utilized several spaces within the RTI complex and were spread out over most of the square footage in the back half of the building. Team “Spaz Bot” (aka team 5) won the build competition with an impressive build time of 42:00 minutes flat. This time qualifies them in the top 10 percent all-time for the Robot Battles 2 event – great job!
All of the teams completed a robot in less than one hour – great job RTI – which led to a spirited series of battles. We witnessed numerous cases of an otherwise rare event – the double flip! There were both incidents or types of double flip: (1) two robots ram into each other so hard they both get flipped over and (2) one robot hits two other robots at the perfect angle and force as to propel them both over simultaneously for the 6 pointer!
Teams 5 and 6 recorded the most melee victories with 2 each, and the other melee victories and last survivor victories were spread out evenly among several other teams. Many teams felt the thrill of victory! After 10-12 total rounds of combat including numerous melee rounds and last survivor rounds, everyone had a chance to battle, and we held a final championship between teams 5 and 6. It was a great duel with about a hundred people cheering as the final two bots battled first to a 1 to 1 balloon even status, drawing out the drama, and finally for a team 5 victory and total domination!
A huge thank you to RTI for inviting us onsite for your all-hands-on-deck-company-meeting. You inspired us with your enthusiasm and battle skill! We also thank you for lunch and perhaps the greatest quesadilla of my life.
