San Mateo Robot Team Event with Franklin Templeton
A San Mateo Robot Team Event with Franklin Templeton yielded one of the most exciting “photo-finishes” to any build event over the last three years. This event was remarkable for many reasons, one of those reasons was the outstanding build times from “non-technical” people. We emphasize that building the robot is more about great teamwork and leadership than technical skill. Although the robot battles team event is ideal for engineers, many clients have proved communication, organization, camaraderie, and joy all contribute significantly to a successful.
Our average build time for all super smart bay area performers is about 45 minutes. Building below the average time means you did a lot of things right! Our two teams from Franklin Templeton – “The Liberators” and the “Oppressors” set the stage for a showdown of epic proportions, and possibly the future of our world, with their team names, and then battled to within 1 second of each other to complete the build! This was the closest build competition ever beating out several two second and three second finishes.
Just like in the Avengers (Part 2), thankfully “The Liberators” won with a time of 41:15 (forty one minutes and fifteen seconds) edging out “The Oppressors” by the margin of a ray of light.
Following the build, we battled robots for high stakes – losing team had to buy pizza! One again the forces of dark and light were almost exactly even, and once again – thankfully – the Liberators prevailed 3-2 and got freed pizza! Initially we went one-on-one in true “BattleBots” style to settle the pizza score, and then once the pressure was off, we relaxed, threw in two more robots, and battled melee style until time was up.
It was a great way to initiate a new building. Our FT team was the first ones to move into a spectacular and beautiful new office space. Our battle meeting room still had the plastic wrap – ahhh … that new room smell. Of note to our readers 12 years old and younger (e.g. my daughters), the event was held across the street from the home of Roblox.
