Google Team Event Mountain View
A Google Team Event Mountain View was a spectacular success with an incredibly high energy team led by Mr. High Energy and Enthusiasm – Mr. Dallas. Luckily this is his code name and not his official name so no identities will be compromised.
Beginning in the end, the battles were spectacular with well over a dozen flips in 7 rounds of battle! Teams Thrash, Death Star, and Top Quality entered the melee arena and immediately got after it posting scores as high as 17 points by Death Star on one three minute melee battle … Un-heard-of! Balloons were pooping at an aggressive rate to where the pit crews became a significant part of the victory process. The faster they could replace the balloons the more they could pop!
In the end, the scores were very close at 3.5 to 2.5 to 1 melee victories with Death Star taking the overall battle championship!
The build session was an observation in great teamwork. Many hands were on the robots, people were thinking proactively – testing their electronics in advance, and team captains set the pace to move smoothly, but quickly. Like everything with this group, the build finale was exciting and very close! Death Star edged out Thrash by less than 5 seconds with a build time of 37:43, literally inserting the correct and final cable just before Thrash put in the last bolt.
Top Quality – as their name suggests – took a more thoughtful and deliberate approach, “crossing T’s and dotting i’s,” and focusing on a quality build. Unfortunately it did not pay off as they had ongoing electrical issues. Once these were resolved, by trading for our pre-built robot, their battle prowess took off. Top Quality tied the second to last battle 7-7 against Death Star with two robot flips, and then they won the final battle – worth 2 melee victories – catapulting them to 2nd place in the battle competition. With the momentum in their favor, its plausible they would have won the battles had we had 1 or 2 more … we will never know.
A huge thank you to Google for inviting us out to your LMK-2 complex! We hope you return for Robot Battles 2!
