Sortly Builds Big at South Mission Beach
Sortly brought teamwork, creativity, and a little friendly competition to the shores of South Mission Beach in San Diego for a San Diego Sandcastle Teambuilding event that turned an already spectacular evening into something memorable.
With the sun beginning to set over the Pacific and miles of white sand as the backdrop, 51 Sortly team members divided into seven teams and went all-in on the challenge. The assignment was simple: work together to transform a mound of sand into the most impressive castle, sculpture, or structure they could imagine.
The results were anything but simple.
Teams created huge castles and elaborate sand structures, with participants digging, packing, carving, decorating, and problem-solving together from start to finish. One team incorporated a giant “S” for Sortly directly into its creation, while another used seaweed to outline and accent its design. One of the evening’s biggest architectural features was an enormous sand staircase that looked like it belonged at the entrance to a beachfront fortress.
Sortly is an inventory management software company that helps businesses track and organize everything from supplies and materials to tools and equipment. Its software is built around making organization and collaboration easier for teams; qualities that translated particularly well to an event where everyone had to coordinate their efforts to turn tons of loose sand into something spectacular.
What stood out most wasn’t any individual castle, though. It was how completely everyone participated. Every team was all in. People quickly divided up jobs, shared ideas, hauled buckets of water, shaped walls, carved details, and adjusted their plans as their structures grew.
And everyone seemed to be having a great time doing it.
By the time the sun dropped toward the horizon, South Mission Beach was lined with seven enormous creations and a group of sandy, smiling builders. It was the perfect combination of teamwork, competition, creativity, and an incredible San Diego sunset, and a great example of what can happen when a team gets out of the office and builds something together.
