A Sanofi Boston Team Building event in Cambridge on the waterfront boasted a beauftiful venue and robots battling each other!
When you bring together a group of talented professionals from one of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical companies and challenge them to build giant battle robots, good things happen.
Recently, TeamWorx had the opportunity to facilitate Robot Build & Battle 2 for the Sanofi team at their impressive Cambridge Crossing campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The facility, which brings together thousands of employees from research, medical, commercial, and global teams, was the perfect setting for an event centered around collaboration, innovation, and a little friendly destruction.
Unlike many team-building activities where a few people naturally take charge while others watch, Robot Build & Battle 2 requires everyone to contribute. Teams of 8 to 10 participants work together to assemble a large metal battle robot from dozens of components. Because multiple sections of the robot can be built simultaneously, success depends on communication, coordination, and teamwork from the very beginning.
As the Sanofi teams spread throughout the beautiful meeting space overlooking Cambridge Crossing, the room quickly filled with energy. Some groups organized themselves with military precision. Others preferred a more improvisational approach. Regardless of strategy, every team soon discovered that building a large battle robot is much easier when everyone is aligned on the same goal.
The real excitement began when the final robots rolled into the battle arena.
Robot Build & Battle 2 features larger, faster, and harder-hitting robots designed specifically for high-energy competition. Drivers worked in pairs as robots charged across the arena, hunting balloons and engaging in robot combat while teammates cheered from the sidelines. The room erupted with laughter, shouting, and celebration as battles unfolded and strategies were tested under pressure.
One of our favorite moments was watching teams that had spent the previous hour carefully assembling mechanical components suddenly become fiercely competitive once the battles began. Engineers became drivers. Project managers became strategists. Spectators became enthusiastic coaches.
The combination of collaboration, creativity, competition, and pure fun is what makes Robot Build & Battle 2 such a memorable experience. Every participant helps build the robot, every participant gets an opportunity to battle, and every team leaves with shared stories that continue long after the event is over.
