Sunnyvale Robot Team Event with Netflix
Netflix set some blazing build times in their Sunnyvale Robot Team Event at the Wild Palms Hotel. 4 teams competed to build the robot faster than each other, and then test their battle skills and build quality in combat.
Ultimately Dyno Tron beat Stranger Robots by only 35 seconds posting a top 10% time of 39:40 (thirty-nine minutes and forty seconds) and Stranger Robots at 40:15. Fuh Amesome and Nano Robots brought up the back with times under 50 minutes.
The battles were a different story with Fuh Awesome flexing their battle muscles winning two of the 5 melee rounds and getting into the championship against Stranger Robots. The first melee they came out fast and furious winning by 8 points over the other three teams. Their next win was a close and exciting match that came down to the last 20 seconds when they pulled it out with a melee winning flip to take it 9 points to 8 points! Dyno Tron won by 6 points in the middle round of the melees, but couldn’t capture that elusive second victory.
Stranger Robots found their path to the final through two exhilarating melee round victories. In both melees they came back from large deficits to win in the last seconds with robot flips or double balloon pops! The first win was twelve to ten, and the second victory was ten to eight over the second place team.
The final was a 2-minute robot-versus-robot one on one battle for points. Each team chose their best driver. In the end, Stranger Robots outlasted Fuh Awesome for the championship in a hotly contested and skillful display of robot battling.
The Wild Palms Hotel served as an excellent venue with plenty of space, excellent natural light, and a new and very clean feel to the room.
A huge thank you to Netflix for inviting us to work with another exceptional and outstanding team of robot experts!
