Charity Team Building NYC
Thank you to The College Board for sponsoring a Charity Team Building NYC event and giving away 15 backpacks filled with school supplies to wonderful young people from The Children’s Village. It was great working with such an amazing organization like Children’s Village that impacts the lives of so many deserving young children from Harlem. The mission for Children’s Village is to work in partnership with families to help society’s most vulnerable children so that they become educationally proficient, economically productive, and socially responsible members of their communities. When I visited the Children’s Village after school program this is exactly what I saw. Students were diligently studying in groups and individually, while some received one-on-one instruction in areas they needed help. There was an obvious polite code of conduct that displayed respect, friendliness and manners. Overall Children’s Village serves over 10,000 youth

In addition, The College Board learned techniques for thinking out-of-the-box and team problem solving including “verbalizing,” “What is your brain filtering?”, and “Fail Forward.” They applied the three techniques to a multitude of possible mental puzzles designed to be more or less difficult, The harder the challenge the more money the teams earned towards their backpacks. The winning team did the best job of applying the techniques and not resorting back to their normal problem solving habits. Although it takes more effort at first, once they got used to using the techniques it paid off huge dividends in being able to solve harder puzzles more quickly.
