Airbnb Robot Team Building
An Airbnb Robot Team Building event in San Francisco was a huge hit (literally)! 120 people on 21 teams had an amazing time at the beautiful Airbnb corporate headquarters.
The Airbnb campus in San Francisco is one of the coolest corporate spaces in the world because it perfectly reflects the company’s mission of “belonging anywhere.” Located in converted warehouse buildings in the city’s Design District, the campus feels less like a traditional office and more like a global travel experience. Meeting rooms are modeled after real Airbnb listings from around the world, and entire floors are themed around international cities like Kyoto, Amsterdam, and Buenos Aires.
What makes Airbnb especially impressive is how intentional the company is about culture and creativity. The founders built the company around design, hospitality, and human connection, and the campus reflects that in every detail. Employees work in open, collaborative “neighborhoods” with cafes, lounges, libraries, and social gathering areas designed to inspire interaction and innovation.
Teams battled to build the robot faster than each other and for the World Record. The winning build team, pictured above, had an exceptionally fast time of 33:48 (thirty-three minutes and forty-eight seconds) placing them 79th All-Time!
The highlight of the event was the all-21-robots-in-the arena battles! There is really nothing comparable to the excitement of having all 21 robots smashing, popping balloons, and flipping each other, and the noise of the crowd like a Roman Coliseum!
We managed several rounds of points-based battles with a few clear winning teams, and some murky rounds where the fun overtook the scoring. In the end we finished with a thrilling Last Bot Standing Finale that saw 20 robots eliminated before cheering our resilient champions!
A huge thank you to Airbnb for inviting us to their corporate headquarters for an amazing robot build and battle experience!
