Discord Third Place All-Time
Discord hosted our Robot Build and Battle 1 event for 100 engineers at their complex in near downtown San Francisco.
When companies come to our Robot Build and Battle 1 event, they’re not just signing up for a fun activity, they’re stepping into a global competition. Thousands of teams, from startups to Fortune 500 companies, have taken on the challenge: build a fully functional battle robot as fast as possible, then prove it in the arena.
Recently, one standout team raised the bar even higher: Discord.
If you’re not familiar, Discord is a global communications platform used by millions to connect through voice, video, and text, enabling communities to collaborate and communicate in real time. That focus on communication and teamwork showed up immediately in their approach to the event.
From the moment the clock started, the Discord team demonstrated what we see in the very best performers: clear communication, smart division of labor, and constant coordination.
In Robot Build and Battle 1, success depends on assembling four distinct components simultaneously and bringing them together flawlessly. It’s a real-time test of collaboration under pressure—and Discord delivered.
The result? The 3rd fastest build time of all time!!!
Let that sink in.
This isn’t just “fast.” This is top-tier performance out of thousands of teams who have competed over hundreds of events since 2016. Many of these teams: Google, LinkedIn, biotech leaders, and elite engineering groups, are documented throughout our blog. Cracking the top of that list requires more than technical ability; it demands alignment, leadership, and execution.
What makes this even more interesting is how closely the event mirrors real-world work. Much like Discord’s platform enables people to connect and collaborate at scale, the Robot Build and Battle challenge rewards teams that communicate effectively and adapt quickly.
After the build, of course, came the battles—multiple rounds of robot combat where strategy, repairs, and teamwork continue to matter. And as always, the room was filled with energy: cheering, competition, and that unmistakable moment when a team realizes they’ve done something exceptional.
Discord didn’t just participate. They set a benchmark. And now, every future team has one more elite time to chase.
