Downtown SF Team Building – Zignal Rocks Robots on 30th Floor
Zignal Labs had a Downtown SF Team Building at the San Francisco Union Square Marriott. Eight teams of 6 and 7 people all built robots and then battled in an all-bot melee. Team Names consisted of “The Team That Can’t Be Named” (aka Voldemort), “The Grave Diggers,” “Death Stomp,” “The Red Zone Raiders,” “Terminators,” “Team B,” “The Gov’t Shutdown,” “Autozoners.”
The Terminators (pictured here) took 1st place in the build competition with an impressive time of 37:34 (thirty seven minutes and thirty four seconds). They were followed closely by three other teams which led to the first round of the melee. Half the teams were battling and half still building until the 48 minute mark when the complete melee was in full effect.
There were many spectacular moments of battle with wheels, screws, and entire attack arms being knocked off and displaced. Perhaps the most unique moment was The Team That Can’t Be Named managed to knock off two attack arms in the same melee. They figured out a technique to leverage any weakness in the set screw from “battle rattle” and then also rip off the arm after loosening; impressive and not something I have seen before.
AutoZoners scored the most points throughout the battles but failed to win any of the melees; the James Harden of robot battling? Although there were many great robot flips and dozens of points scored, we agreed to have one final melee to determine the winner of the battle competition. Even a last minute flip couldn’t prevent The Team That Can’t Be Named from having the most points at the end of time, and being crowned Battle Champion!
A huge thank you to Zignal Labs for sharing their talent and enthusiasm for ninety minutes of furious roboting, rumbling and routing!
