Lam Research Semiverse Solutions Plays Food Donation Golf and Donates Over $1,300 in Food
Fun and giving back met on the lawn at Seascape Resort in Aptos when the Semiverse Solutions team from Lam Research took on our Food Donation Golf challenge. Teams built 18 custom mini-golf holes out of canned and boxed food, and afterward we donated over $1,300 worth of it to the Epiphany Lutheran and Episcopal Church Food Bank and Food Not Bombs.
How It Works
Each team designed and built its own hole using donated food, cardboard, tubes, construction paper, and plenty of tape. Teams then played nine holes, followed by their own hole, and a winner was announced.
Here’s the twist: the goal is to play your own hole better than the other teams do, by a wider margin than any other team manages on theirs. A hole with a secret path, or one that takes a few practice attempts to master, gives its creators a real advantage.
Ingenuity on Display
Teams ran with that strategy. Several built multiple construction-paper tunnels where only the builders knew the correct one. The rest were dead ends or sent the ball somewhere bad. On one hole, hitting only the left side of a large tube meant a hole in one, while anywhere else, even dead center, sent you off into the grass. Another team built a ramp that rewarded practice, and one hid a box where only its creators knew where to aim.
Every hole was challenging in its own unique way, and watching teams discover the tricks (usually the hard way) was half the fun.
The Winners
Congratulations to our winning team (pictured), who paired clever design with steady putting to come out on top.
Giving Back
When the final putt dropped, every can and box went where it was always meant to go: to neighbors in need. A huge thank you to Lam Research Semiverse Solutions for bringing creativity, competition, and generosity to the course!
