AirBnB Waymo Battle Robots
Two Events, Two Spots on the All-Time World Record Boards
In back-to-back days this October, two of the most innovative companies in tech pushed their way onto the TeamWorx all-time robot build record lists. On October 6, Airbnb built the bigger Robot Build & Battle 2 bot in 51:36 to place 24th all-time. One day later, Waymo built the Robot Build & Battle 1 bot in 28:25 to place 22nd all-time.
Those rankings are rare air. Hundreds of companies and thousands of teams have chased these records since 2016, and most weeks no one cracks the top lists. Then both events capped the build with massive all-in battles: 25 robots at once for Waymo, 18 for Airbnb, ending in a Last Bot Standing finale.
Waymo: 28:25 and 22nd All-Time in Robot Build & Battle 1
Waymo builds the Waymo Driver, the autonomous technology behind its fully driverless ride-hailing service. When your day job is getting complex hardware and software to work together flawlessly, a robot build is home turf, and it showed.
Waymo brought 125 people, split into 25 teams, to Robot Build & Battle 1. Each team had to build four component parts at the same time, get every one right, and assemble them into a working battle robot. The winning team finished in 28:25, good for 22nd place on the all-time Top 100.
Just how exceptional is that? Since 2020, only four teams anywhere have built this robot faster. It also beat Waymo’s own previous best from December 2023 (31:50) by more than three minutes. Like a self-driving car, the team ran on clear roles, constant communication, and zero wasted motion.
Then came the battles: 25 robots in the arena at the same time, smashing, flipping, and popping balloons, until one bot was left standing. The team pictured with the Waymo vehicle are the Waymo battle champions.
Airbnb: 51:36 and 24th All-Time in Robot Build & Battle 2
Airbnb connects millions of guests with hosts around the world, and its whole business depends on people trusting each other and working together across distance and difference. That same spirit powered 150 Airbnb employees on 18 teams through our biggest robot, Robot Build & Battle 2.
RB2 is bigger, faster, and harder hitting. Teams of 8 to 10 build seven component parts at once, then assemble them into one machine. The winning Airbnb team did it in 51:36, earning 24th place on the all-time Top 25, alongside Marvell, Google, Meta, LinkedIn, and Apple.
Breaking into that list is rare. In the two years since fall 2024, only two companies have done it: Meta in August, and now Airbnb. Airbnb teams have now landed on both record boards in 2026, after an Airbnb team also reached the RB1 Top 100 this May.
The setting matched the performance. The event took place at Airbnb’s San Francisco headquarters, pictured above, one of the most striking workplaces anywhere, with a soaring sunlit atrium, warm wood terraces, and a living green wall that climbs several stories. In the battles, all 18 robots fought at once, two drivers per team, until the team pictured claimed Last Bot Standing and the battle championship.
Can Your Team Make the List?
Congratulations to Waymo and Airbnb, and to both battle champion teams pictured above. Two companies, two all-time rankings, and 43 robots in the arena in one week.
The record boards are open to every company, from global tech leaders to the smartest start-ups. Teamwork, communication, and leadership are the difference. See the Robot Build & Battle page to bring the build, the battles, and a shot at the record to your team.
